The 49th Annual Conference & General Assembly of CEOC International, hosted by the CEOC member SAMTS, took place on 18 & 19 May 2009 at the Melia Grand Hermitage Hotel in Varna, Bulgaria.
CEOC International, the international confederation representing the joint interests of the world‘s leading inspection and certification companies involved in the inspection and certification of a wide range of consumer products and technical installations, was happy about the broad attendance and lively discussions.
The Bulgarian State Agency for Metrological and Technical Surveillance (SAMTS) was in charge of organising the event and arranged an interesting programme comprising high-quality meetings and sight-seeing highlights. The agency joined CEOC as a full member in January 2007 and is especially linked to the confederation via its Directorate General “Technical Inspection”.
The 49th CEOC Annual Conference gathered more than 100 high level representatives of the international inspection and certification sector to discuss the latest developments in this area that counts world-wide about 2000 companies and over 100.000 employees.
2009 is an important year for CEOC and its members because of the imminent implementation of the new EU legislation on accreditation and market, also known as New Legislative Framework (NLF) for the marketing of goods.
This new EU legislative package marks a major step in the further development of the internal markets for goods. The legislation covers a wide range of products in 20 industrial sectors ranging from toys to high speed rail systems.
During the Annual Conference the Bulgarian Minister for Economy, as well as several high-level guest speakers from the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (OSHA), the European Consumers Organisation ANEC and the European Federation of National Associations of Measurement, Testing and Analytical Laboratories (EUROLAB) addressed the audience.
“Product Safety by means of Inspection & Certification in the new EU Member States” was chosen as the overall theme of the conference. The event was followed by the meetings of the CEOC Technical Committees in the field of conformity assessment, inspection, occupational health and safety, machines, lifts and cranes, non destructive testing and pressure equipment. On 19 May the CEOC International General Assembly took place.
