The last deadline to phase out animal testing for cosmetic products in Europe enters into force. As of 11th March 2013 cosmetics tested on animals cannot be marketed any more in the EU.
CEOC, EUROLAB and IFIA welcome the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on Medical Devices, published on 26 September 2012, aimed at revising medical device legislation. The Proposal will strengthen the current European regulatory framework for medical devices and will develop it further.
MEPs called for more meat tests along the food chain in the wake of the horsemeat scandal during a debate in the food safety committee on Monday, 18 February 2013.
The new package of legislative and non-legislative measures to improve consumer product safety and to strengthen market surveillance of products in the EU adopted by the European Commission on 13 February 2013, will be discussed in the European Parliament and in the Council.

The Council today (28th November) appointed Tonio Borg as new commissioner for health and consumer affairs for the remainder of the current term of office of the Commission (31st October 2014).
